The Southwest Allen County Fire Protection District was established in 1986 by the Allen County Commissioners to provide comprehensive fire protection services to the community. At its inception, the district served the unincorporated areas of Lafayette, Pleasant, and Wayne Townships. In January 2024, the district expanded its coverage area to include Marion Township.
Today, the Southwest Allen County Fire District delivers Fire-Rescue services and Advanced Life Support (ALS) Paramedic EMS transport across more than 110 square miles of Allen County, while also serving portions of neighboring Wells County near the Town of Zanesville.
The district protects several of Allen County’s largest employers and critical infrastructure, including General Motors, Franklin Electric, Vera Bradley, General Mills, Amazon, Android Industries, Lippert Components, and Walmart’s milk production facility.
Southwest Fire District operates a fleet of 20 front-line fire apparatus and five ambulances, responding from five strategically located fire stations throughout the district.
With the dedication of our full-time, part-time, and volunteer personnel, the district responds to approximately 2,000 emergency incidents each year, providing rapid, professional, and compassionate service to those in need.
In addition to emergency response, the district operates one of the region’s most modern fire training facilities. Built in 2002, the training center supports live-fire training and specialized operations such as confined space and high-angle rope rescue. The facility is utilized annually by firefighters, EMS providers, law enforcement, and military personnel from across the region.
